Anise seed (Pimpinella anisum) is known for its licorice or fennel-like flavor and aroma, and is most often used in baking and cooking. It has been used for digestive complaints and has a wide range of nutrients, including iron and manganese.

Some research has found it may reduce symptoms of depression, and that it may be protective against stomach ulcer formation. More research is needed, however.

No known precautions.

We always recommend you speak with your healthcare provider prior to beginning any course of herbal therapy – especially if you are taking medications, are pregnant/breastfeeding, or have any chronic conditions.
